Celtic have reportedly stepped up their bid to sign Yeovil defender Tom James.

The right back has been on Brendan Rodgers' radar over the past year but amid interest from Hull and Swansea the Hoops have made their move, say reports.

James, a former Wales youth international previously of Cardiff City, has one year left on his deal at Huish Park.

Celtic have also been linked with a move for Wigan defender Nathan Byrne.

While defensive reinforcements may arrive, the champions' hopes of completing a move for Liverpool winger Harry Wilson have apparently been dealt a blow.

The Reds want assurances over game time that would see Liverpool demand a hefty compensation fee if the 21-year-old fails to receive regular minutes on the pitch.

Elsewhere, Millwall are said to have no interest in selling Jake Cooper to Rangers after the defender starred in the Lions' backline last season.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen have reportedly had a £500,000 bid for Doncaster forward John Marquis rejected.
