Andy Murray has tumbled to number 16 in the world following an injury-disrupted year.

The Scot is out of the ATP Tour rankings top ten for the first time in three years after missing the final grand slam of the year, the US Open, and recent key tour events.

His fall has come as a result of the hip injury that marred his Wimbledon charge.

Murray's latest standing is the lowest he has been ranked since May 2008 when he was 18th.

The 30-year-old ended 2016 as world number one but has struggled for fitness and form throughout 2017.

He fell in the fourth round of the Australian Open to German Mischa Zverev, lost out to Stan Wawrinka over five sets in the French Open semi-finals, then hobbled out of Wimbledon following another five-set loss to American Sam Querrey in the quarters.

Murray has failed to compete since the All England Club in July - but on Tuesday will take on Roger Federer in a charity match in Glasgow.

Reigning French and US Open champion Rafael Nadal is guaranteed to end the year as world number one.
