Kieran Tierney said Celtic's players gave everything they had in their 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

The defeat was the second successive loss against the German opposition but Celtic pushed Bayern much closer than in the 3-0 defeat away from home two weeks ago.

Kingsley Coman had put the visitors ahead before Callum McGregor equalised, only for Javi Martinez to head in the winner moments later.

Tierney admitted to frustration that Celtic had come away from a testing 90 minutes without any reward.

"We're so unlucky," the 20-year old said. "The boys put everything into that game and the fans appreciated it.

"The fans were great for us tonight and we just fell short."

A heavy defeat on opening day against PSG was followed with a creditable win against Andelecht before the back-to-back defeats to Bayern.

Tierney said the display at Celtic Park on Tuesday night showed progress on the big stage.

"Obviously the first results weren't great and we're looking to get better," he said. "I think that performance tonight showed we have come a long way together and there's further to go.

"We were doing great against a top team but you always know that just one attack and they can score. Teams like that are so clinical and they proved that tonight.

"Our aim at the start was to get European football after Christmas and we can still do that. We've a couple of games left and I hope we can do well."
