Former Hearts winger Andrew Driver says Dundee United would be making a "good choice" if they appoint his ex-Jam Tarts boss Csaba Laszlo as their new manager.

Laszlo, who spent 18 months in charge at Tynecastle, has emerged as one of the front-runners for the vacant Tannadice post.

Driver, who plies his trade in the Dutch second tier with De Graafschap, said the Hungarian's attention to detail on the training ground could help transform struggling United's fortunes on the pitch.

He said: "As a team, we did pretty well that year. We were very organised, hard to beat and got results.

"For Dundee United, a bit of consistency would be good and I think he'd be a good man for the job.

"In the media, he said some funny things but in the changing room, he was pretty serious. He'd be a good guy to go in, he's been around the block."

Driver added: "If anything I'd say his style is very German. I know he's Hungarian but a lot of his football years were in Germany and you can tell by his training.

"It was all tactical-based, which was kind of strange for us Scottish guys who weren't used to something like that."

STV Sport understands United could make an appointment within the next 24 hours.
