Malky Mackay has named a vastly different looking squad to the group Gordon Strachan had for the Slovakia and Slovenia double header earlier this month.

Scotland take on the Netherlands at Pittodrie next week in a friendly with ten players dropping out and nine new faces called into the mix.

Out of the nine additions, three are being handed their first chance at senior level.

Hibernian's Paul Hanlon, Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings and Aberdeen's on-loan Celt Ryan Christie have all been included.

The interim boss explained his reasons for choosing the trio.

"Paul Hanlon is captaining Hibs and going from strength to strength," Mackay said.

"I went to the Edinburgh derby the other night and Hibs were terrific, he was so calm at the back.

"He's someone who has been in the youth setup before but has taken his time to fill out and understand the position and learn to have that leadership quality.

"But I'm seeing all that at the moment. If you look at him you think of hard work and progression."

"Ryan Christie has been sensational for Aberdeen this season," he said.

"I spoke to Derek McInnes about him and he's been glowing. I think you only have to see the goal on Saturday to realise the quality he has. Now is the time to step up to the next stage.

"He's obviously on loan from Celtic at the moment and has been doing very well so I don't see why he shouldn't be given the opportunity.

"Especially at his own stadium and that's going to certainly help as well."

Mackay said: "Cummings, in the big games, is managing to step up to the plate.

"I think the next stage in his career was moving away from his home club, moving to England and playing against big, strong players who will challenge him every week.

"He is becoming a professional who can handle playing 90 minutes twice in one week."

He added: "They've allowed me to monitor Jason regularly over the last couple of months and in him I see a young version of Leigh Griffiths.

"I see someone with pace, his finishing ability is second to none and it's time for him to start becoming the player people thought had great potential.

"It will do him good to be in and around experienced players and stake his claim for the years going forward."
