Former Hibernian player Jamie Insall has been banned for two years after failing a drug test while on loan at East Fife last season.

The 25-year-old was found to be in breach of anti-doping rules when the in-competition test cam back with a positive result for benzoylecgonine, which is a metabolite of cocaine.

UK Anti Doping confirmed on Wednesday that he had been banned from all sport for two years from the date of the test, keeping him out of professional football until March 30, 2019.

Insall joined Hibernian in September 23 from English non-league side Bromyard Town.

He failed to play any competitive matches for the Easter Road side and was put out on loan to East Fife, where he played 50 games.

The player told UKAD cocaine had been ingested inadvertently in a social situation after celebrating a birthday with friends.

He failed to convince the anti-doping hearing there was no fault of negligence on his part.

UKAD chief executive Nicole Sapstead said: "Regardless of how it got there, every athlete is solely responsible for what is in their system and must adhere to the strict liability principle.

"They must ensure that they take the appropriate steps to manage the risk at all times."
