Rodgers: Poor penalty decision tested Celtic's composure
The manager did not believe the referee made the right call against Dedryck Boyata.
Brendan Rodgers says his side's composure was tested when Hibernian were awarded a controversial penalty against Celtic in the League Cup semi final.
The Scottish champions beat Hibs 4-2 at the national stadium to book their place in November's final, with doubles from Mikael Lustig and Moussa Dembele.
But the game didn't go by without a debatable moment. Referee Kevin Clancy pointed to the spot when he, and his linesman, deemed Dedryck Boyata to have fouled substitute Martin Boyle shortly into the second half.
Anthony Stokes netted from the spot to bring Hibs back into the game at 2-1 but the Celtic boss did not believe it was the right call.
He called it "two poor decisions" from the officials and was disappointed with the unnecessary pressure his side were put under as a result.
Speaking at full time, Rodgers said: "My initial reaction at the time was Dedryck recovered well. The boy is running frontal with the ball and Dedryck comes in with his toe and the ball is misdirected.
"So it's two poor decisions, one by the referee who was on his way back and then he's looking for help from his linesman and he's obviously facing it. How he gave the penalty I'll never know.
"It gave them a bit of oxygen and also made us refocus on our game. I thought the players then pulled themselves back into it really well.
"Especially the showpiece games, you don't want a decision to go against you because you don't get the chance to come back again. There's no replays, it's a one-off game.
"But it asked questions of us in terms of our mentality and our composure in terms of staying calm. I thought the players did that and went on to get the other goals."
