Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich welcome Celtic to Germany this week for match day three of the UEFA Champions League.

Both sides sit equal on three points in Group B, with Bayern ahead only on goal difference.

They both suffered heavy defeats to Paris Saint-Germain but conceding five goals as opposed to three finds Celtic in the lower position.

Wednesday's fixture at the Allianz Arena is the first of two fixtures between the teams this month, with Bayern travelling to Parkhead on Halloween.

Both managers, Brendan Rodgers and Jupp Heynckes, will face the media on Tuesday but before they have their final say let's look at what the German media are saying in the build-up to this game.

Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes returned to the club's dugout for the fourth time at the weekend, leading his side to a 5-0 win over Freiburg.

Deutche Welle has looked at what he implemented, saying he has already started to lay the foundations of his old system.

This could be bad news for Celtic as some players who were looking a bit lost during Bayern Munich's poor run of form last month now have clearly defined roles.

We could see Thomas Muller pose more of a threat from the edge of the box, just off Robert Lewandowski, while wing players Kingdley Coman and David Alaba on the left and Arjen Robben and Joshua Kimmich on the right could be better positioned to hurt Celtic.

On paper, Heynckes made a huge impact on Saturday.

A 5-0 win over a struggling side, who are third off the bottom of the Bundesliga, is hardly a shocking result for giants like Bayern Munich but compared to their recent run of form it was a vital victory.

Before Heynckes came in, they had won just three of their seven fixtures since the start of September but the players have instantly warmed to him and the effects are immediately on show.

Matt Hummels said the squad are now clear on what the demands are while Joshua Kimmich respects how Heynckes is able to exert a sense of calmness when he speaks.

Javi Martinez has been ruled out of the Celtic clash after tearing a ligament in his right shoulder in the 5-0 win over Freiburg.

He was one of Bayern Munich's standout players before falling awkwardly in the second half.

The club have not confirmed the length of time he will be sidelined for but he was ruled out of Wednesday's fixture.

Heynckes said: "It is a concern. "He's a tough boy and never usually asks to come off."

Bayern Munich are already missing Manuael Neuer, Frank Ribery and Javi Martinez for the visit of Celtic but they may finally be having a bit of luck on the injury front.

Midfielder Arturo Vidal is said to be back fit again after suffering a muscle injury so could Heynckes throw him in against Celtic?

He has not played for the new manager yet, having been sidelined for his club since the end of September.

German clubs have not had the best start to their respective Champions League campaigns.

Bayern Munich were hammered 3-0 by Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund lost 3-1 to both Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur while RB Leipzig lost 2-0 to Besiktas.

Handelblatt has looked into why they are struggling so much, analysing the less experienced sides who are competing, the strong opposition the bigger guns are facing and the financial issues hitting Bundesliga clubs.
