Ross County manager Owen Coyle believes Gordon Strachan should remain as Scotland manager and lead the team into the European Championship qualifiers.

The national team's 2-2 draw with Slovenia on Sunday night ended hopes of reaching the World Cup play-offs, meaning Strachan reaches the end of his contract next month having failed in two full qualification campaigns.

The Scottish FA will discuss his position and public opinion is split over whether or not Strachan should be given a new deal.

Coyle said improvements in performances and results in the last year were evidence he should remain in his post.

"No, it's not a time for change," he said. "It's a time for stability.

"Had it gone the other way and the team was in a great position and lost it bit by bit [then maybe] but it was the reverse.

"They had a dip in the middle of the group but they've picked themselves up and finished so strongly."

Coyle added: "You look at the performance against England and how close they came that day. Had they held on they would probably be in the play-offs already.

"There's a lot of good work been done by Gordon and the team. It's time for everyone to get behind him, show that level of support and really push us on to get ready for the next European Championships."
