Scottish boxer Gary Cornish eyes heavyweight history
The Inverness fighter can become Scotland's first British heavyweight champion on Friday.
Scottish boxer Gary Cornish is out to make history by becoming the country's first British heavyweight champion when he takes on Sam Sexton in Edinburgh on Friday.
Cornish's only defeat in 24 fights has come at the hands of world champion Anthony Joshua.
He is relishing the chance to go toe-to-toe with former Commonwealth champion Sexton, a fighter he once studied at the offset of his own professional career - in the main event of the Meadowbank bill.
The 30-year-old from Inverness said: "When I first started, before I turned pro, it was Sam Sexton sparring (Derek) Chisora.
"They were about that level then and I thought to myself 'if I can get to that level I'll be doing well'. I'm here now so it's brilliant."
The card also features another Scot vying for championship glory.
Edinburgh fighter Stephen Simmons faces England's Simon Barclay for the vacant IBF European belt after his previous opponent Matty Askin pulled out of a British title fight due to injury.
Simmons said: "It was a gutter because you are getting ready for that opponent and fighting for the prestigious British title but my management worked magic tricks to get me a IBF European title shot.
"It would propel me into the top 15 IBF ratings and only move me closer to my dream shot at a world title."
