Celtic could be without defender Jozo Simunovic for the Champions League double header against German champions Bayern Munich.

Simunovic has suffered a hamstring injury in what is the latest of a series of setbacks for Celtic defenders.

The Bosnian stopper has not travelled for his country's World Cup qualifiers and his national team's doctor has been quoted as saying the player has suffered a rupture of his hamstring.

The timescale for his return is not yet known, however, meaning manager Brendan Rodgers will be considering his options for the Champions League games, as well as imminent league and League Cup matches.

Celtic have suffered a series of injuries to defenders in recent months.

Dedryck Boyata has only recently returned to the team after a spell on the sidelines while Erik Sviatchenko has also been out injured.

The Danish defender is back in training and could be set to replace Simunovic alongside Boyata.

Right-back Mikael Lustig, midfielder Nir Bitton and teenager Kristoffer Ajer are also options.

Celtic travel to Munich to face Bayern on October 18 with the return match in Glasgow on October 31.
