Charlie Mulgrew: I never thought I'd play against England
Scotland's Charlie Mulgrew admits Saturday's fixture is one he's always aimed for.
Charlie Mulgrew says representing Scotland against England is something he always wanted to do as a youngster but never believed it would happen.
The 31-year-old defender is likely to feature for Gordon Strachan's side on Saturday when they take on the Auld Enemy in the 2018 World Cup qualifier.
It would be the third time Mulgrew has played against England, having started in the 3-1 defeat at Celtic Park in 2014 and coming on as a substitute in the 3-2 defeat at Wembley the previous year. He didn't feature in November's 3-0 defeat in London.
Scotland haven't taken on their greatest rivals at Hampden since the Euro 2000 play-off almost two decades ago and Mulgrew says it's an occasion to relish.
"Watching those games, as a youngster, your aim is to be involved in them and you probably think it's never going to happen," he said.
"I'm delighted to be here and get a chance of being involved hopefully."
When asked what it would mean to beat England at the national stadium he added: "It would mean everything to me personally.
"It's something I've grown up thinking about, playing in these types of games, I'm sure everyone in the squad has as well.
"To top it off with a victory would be brilliant but we're not getting ahead of ourselves. It's a huge challenge ahead, England are a great team and we'll be massive underdogs."
