Charlie Telfer has become the 12th player to depart Dundee United following their failure to secure promotion to the Scottish Premiership.

The Terrors paid Rangers £204,000 in compensation to secure the midfielder's services in 2014 but he failed to make his mark at Tannadice, scoring six goals in 71 appearances.

Telfer had a loan spell with Livingston during the 2015/16 season as United dropped into the Championship under Mixu Paatelainen.

The 21-year-old made his final United appearance in the play-off final defeat to Hamilton.

He said: "I am disappointed that my time at United has come to an end. I have enjoyed being part of this fantastic club and have made many friends on and off the park.

"I wish I could have helped United back into the Premiership and, while I will look back on that with disappointment, I will always remember my time at Tannadice with great fondness and wish the club all the best moving forward."

United boss Ray McKinnon has a major rebuilding job on his hands with Simon Murray, Sean Dillon, Paul Dixon departing the Terrors.

Tony Andreu, Alex Nicholls and Thomas Mikkelsen have all returned to their parent clubs while Luis Zwick, Frank van der Struijk, Wato Kuate and Jordan Garden won't be offered new deals.

Nick van der Velden was allowed to leave the club in late April to secure a move to Indonesia.
