Dundee will face Dundee United in the group stage of the 2017/18 League Cup.

The pair were drawn together early on and were joined in Group C by Gary Locke's Cowdenbeath, recently relegated Raith Rovers and Highland League champions Buckie Thistle.

In the southern section of the draw the pick of the groups came with Kilmarnock and Ayr United due to face each other in July.

Also joining them in Group E are Ayr United, Clyde and Annan Athletic.

The new format, which was rolled out for the first time last summer, features 40 clubs in the group stages of the competition also including Lowland League winners East Kilbride.

EK will face Lanarkshire neighbours Hamilton and Albion Rovers in Group G with Queen of the South and Stenhousemuir.

Celtic, Aberdeen, Rangers and St Johnstone - the four teams taking part in European qualifiers - will enter the competition in the first knockout round in August.

The eight group winners and and four best runners up will also take part in the knockout.
