Rangers have completed the signing of Portuguese international Bruno Alves on a two-year deal.

The veteran defender, who won the European Championships in France last summer, is Pedro Caixinha's first summer signing.

Alves arrived in Glasgow on Tuesday to finalise talks with the Ibrox club, finalising the move from Italian side Cagliari.

The 35-year-old has a busy summer schedule, however, with international fixtures throughout June.

He is in Portugal's squad for their friendly against Cyprus on June 3 and World Cup qualifier against Latvia a week later. He is then expected to be take part in the Confederations Cup in Russia later in the month.

Alves is just 11 appearances away from breaking 100-cap barrier for Portugal. He has represented the senior side since 2007.

Caixinha has been keen to do business quickly ahead of the club's first round Europa League qualifier on June 29.

"I'm very happy to join the club," he told Rangers TV. "I will do my best to win, that is the main reason I have come here.

"I have this feeling and desire to win and I think to move here will bring this back to me and my career.

"At almost all the clubs I have played, I win, and I expect to win here for the fans and for the club.

"I think I can do this here. I have so many great memories. It's going to be an amazing journey, I am sure about that."

Discussions have taken place with midfielders Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack about potential moves to Ibrox.

Caixinha is also keen on Mexican international Carlos Pena, currently under contract with Club Leon.
