Raith Rovers have announced the appointment of Barry Smith as the club's new manager on a two-year deal.

Smith will lead the club in what they hope is a promotion bid after they dropped from Championship to League One.

He succeeds John Hughes, who left Stark's Park after the team suffered relegation through the play-offs with a defeat to Brechin City on penalties.

The 43-year old began his management career with Dundee, taking over when the club entered administration in 2010.

He was in charge at Dens Park for three years and subsequently had spells with Alloa and Aldershot Town.

Smith was appointed as East Fife manager in December and took them to sixth place in League One this season.
