STV understands Paul Sheerin will be a front runner to take charge of Inverness, if Richie Foran leaves the manager's post.

Following the Highlanders' recent relegation from the Premiership, a decision on Foran's future is yet to be made.

But if the Inverness powerbrokers do opt for a change it's believed Aberdeen Under-20s coach Sheerin will be high on their wish list to get the job.

Foran moved up from the playing squad to succeed John Hughes as ICT manager last May but his side struggled in the Premiership and were relegated on the final day of the league season despite a late rally. He has said that he wants the opportunity to lead a promotion campaign next season but it remains unclear if he will be given the backing to continue.

Sheerin, a former Inverness player who made more than 100 appearances for the club between 1998 and 2001, has been a youth team coach at Pittodrie since 2014.

Prior to that, he was manager of Arbroath for four years, leading them to the Third Division title in 2011.
