Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has been left out of England's 25-man squad to take on Scotland in the 2018 World Cup qualifier in June.

England travel up to face Gordon Strachan's men at Hampden on June 10 after a 3-0 over the Scotland in the previous fixture, before travelling to take on France in a friendly a few days later.

Rooney, who was also omitted from the previous England squad, made a substitute appearance in United's Europa League triumph over Ajax on Wednesday night.

Spurs defender Kieran Trippier earns his first call up after an impressive season with the North London club which saw them finish second in the Premier League.

Elsewhere, Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland has returned to the squad after a long injury lay-off, while Ben Gibson has retained his place.

Scotland currently sit fourth in Group F, six points behind England who top the group.

Gordon Strachan announced his squad earlier in the week, with Aberdeen defender Mark Reynolds called up to the squad.
