Hamilton Academical face Dundee United in the first leg of the play-off final with manager Martin Canning saying they have to prove everyone wrong again.

Accies defeated Dundee on the last day of the Premiership season to avoid automatic relegation and give themselves a chance of staying up.

Though they go into the tie as the top flight side, Dundee United's reputation as a traditionally the bigger club has many backing them to succeed.

Canning shrugged that off, saying: "We're fighting against the odds from day one of every season so it doesn't really make a difference.

"I think everyone will constantly say the same thing and for us it's about constantly trying to prove people wrong and stay in the league. We've got to go and do it again."

While Hamilton fought to avoid the drop in the final Premiership games, United were battling through the first two rounds of the play-off.

Canning said he believed both sides had come through a long season but thinks mental, rather than physical, strength will be decisive when the teams meet.

"They have [had a tough few games] but in the last week we've played three games and they've played four," he said.

"We play 38 games in a season and they play 36 so I don't think the amount of games teams had to play will have a big part to play in it.

"They've obviously had a day extra recovery on us so I don't think that's got a lot to do with it. The team that handles the pressure and the occasion best will win the games."
