Kieran Tierney believes that picking a Scotland team dominated by players from Celtic can only help the national team.

Gordon Strachan named his squad for the World Cup qualifier against England on Monday, selecting six players from Brendan Rodgers' side a day after they completed an unbeaten league season.

The national team boss picked all six, including Tierney, for the 1-0 win over Slovenia in March and the young full-back would like to see his team-mates link up in dark blue again.

"I think it puts them in a good position," he said. "You saw last time there was a core of Celtic players and it was a great result for us all.

"I think that helps the team with the way Celtic have played this season and the winning mentality that we've got.

"I think that can only be a bonus for the national side."

Callum McGregor had been tipped for a call-up but missed out and his Celtic team-mate backed him to force his way into the reckoning in the future.

"He's very unlucky," Tierney said. "He's been brilliant for us this season but I've no doubt he'll be in many squads to come.

At the end of a club season that saw him spend a spell on the sidelines as well as enjoy trophy success, he was keen to pit his wits against some star names in Gareth Southgate's side. having filled in on the right side against Slovenia, he said he's ready to take on the same role against England.

"I was injured the last time we played England and unlucky to miss that but hopefully if I do well in the next game and the training week I'll get picked for the team," he said.

"It's a major test. international football brings the best players from every country and I've had a taste of it so I'll be looking forward to this one.

"The first time [I played right-back] was a surprise for me and I'm prepared better now if I'm asked to do that. "
