Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes says Rangers should "probably be embarrassed" at not finishing second in the Scottish Premiership this season.

The Pittodrie side have all but sealed second spot in the table, leading by six points with two games remaining and boasting a vastly superior goal difference.

Speaking earlier in the week, Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha said his side are on the up but Aberdeen will need to make changes if they are to continue their form of recent years.

McInnes, who will take his side to Ibrox on Wednesday for their penultimate league fixture of the season, says the Portuguese boss has bigger problems to worry about.

"I find it strange he feels the need to talk about Aberdeen so much," he said.

"If he thinks that (he's) doing brilliantly at Rangers by being on the up, by finishing ahead of Aberdeen, then he's clearly mistaken.

"His job as Rangers manager is to finish above Celtic and he should be more concerned about that challenge. For us any team that finishes above Rangers in the league, with the budget they have, is doing their work well.

"They should probably be embarrassed that they've not finished second and I think any Premiership manager, with the budget he has, would finish second in the league."

McInnes added: "He likes to do a lot of talking. I think the Rangers fans over the last few years have been used to owners, managers, players saying what they want to hear but the reality is his job as Rangers manager is to finish above Celtic.

"If he thinks he's doing well by finishing above Aberdeen and the rest then he'll soon find out that's not enough."

Caixinha also expressed his interest in midfielder Ryan Jack, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The Dons boss was not happy the Rangers boss been speaking about one of his players.

"I think there is an unwritten rule within managers," he added. "There's always respect and he shouldn't be talking about any of my players in the manner in which he did.

"But each to their own. I firmly believe at this stage of the season, when a lot of rumours go flying about, I think it's important you don't comment on other team's players.

"But like I say, each to their own."
