Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is sure he can improve his squad in the summer transfer window and have a stronger team next season.

The Dons have enjoyed another successful season under McInnes, reaching the League Cup final, taking second place in the league and with a Scottish Cup final to play against Celtic in two weeks.

Some key players could be leaving Pittodrie this summer, however, with Niall McGinn and captain Ryan Jack reaching the end of their contracts and expected to move on.

Peter Pawlett has already agreed to join former Hearts manager Robbie Neilson at MK Dons.

McInnes said he can find players to not only replace the outgoing talent but potentially improve on them.

"If we lose players, and we expect to lose at least a couple, we'll try to bring in good players to make the squad stronger again," he said.

"I'm confident that, as strong as this squad is, we can improve the squad. By doing that we have to bring in good players.

"There's scrutiny on the recruitment staff, myself and the board to make sure that is the case."

Aberdeen have been linked with a move for Scotland international Shaun Maloney, a high-profile player who would match McInnes' ambition, but the manager was reluctant to discuss individual targets.

"I'm not going to comment on players who are at other clubs and have still got things to resolve at their own clubs," he said.

"I think we'll be linked with a lot of players and we've been linked with another couple yesterday.

"I can't comment on every player we're going to be linked with and likewise, I think the only one we wanted to comment on was Ryan Jack, just to clarify that."

He added: "Other than that I think it's important that we concentrate on the job in hand.

"If we sign players we'll shout it from the rooftops. We're always keen to let everybody know when we sign good players."
