Rodgers: Only Celtic disappointment is not scoring more
The Celtic boss was thrilled by his team's demolition of Rangers at Ibrox.
Brendan Rodgers applauded his Celtic players after they demolished Rangers at Ibrox and then said they could have scored more than five goals.
Scott Sinclair, Leigh Griffiths, Callum McGregor, Dedryck Boyata and Mikael Lustig all found the net in the victory, mirroring the scoreline from the first match between the sides at Celtic Park this season. Rodgers said that though the scoreline was the same, he could see a massive improvement in his squad and their performances.
"Big difference from the first 5-1 to the 5-1 today and a very comprehensive win," he said. "The only disappointment was that we actually should have scored more goals.
Though his team never looked like leaving Ibrox without all three points, the Celtic manager said that they never relaxed and just showed their ability and intelligence.
"There's never comfort," he said. "What I look for is improvement in performance and I think from the first game, which was 5-1, and if I look at today's 5-1 it's a totally different dynamic to the team.
"They understood all the elements of how we wanted to play and I think you saw that in full flow today.
"It was a system that Rangers were playing at the beginning, a diamond, that if you're not concentrated and organised then you can get outnumbered and outpassed but the players tactically were absolutely superb.
"When they had the ball and earned the right to have the ball they were sensational, really."
Celtic remain unbeaten in domestic football and on course for a treble but Rodgers said that his side would continue to progress and had ambitions to make a mark beyond Scottish football.
"I think it tells you everything about their mentality," he said. "I said when I first came in that this season doesn't finish until the final whistle of whatever game that is.
"I'm trying to create a team and a squad and a club that goes beyond our domestic football and that's about mentality. You create an environment they can all progress in. I think that we see progression in that.
"The exciting part is that it's only going to get better.
"It's our first year and they're evolving and improving. They weren't going to be on holiday after last week.
"You're representing your football club and millions of fans worldwide. Brilliant atmosphere today from both sets of supporters and hopefully our supporters enjoyed what they saw."
