Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor says his goal against Rangers in Sunday's Scottish Cup semi-final has been the pinnacle of his career so far.

The 23-year-old says it was an incredible feeling when the ball hit the back of the net at Hampden on Sunday and says having been at the club since he was nine, he loved playing on such a big occasion.

He said: "It was great, the manager has been praising me quite highly over the last few weeks so it is great to go out and play like that on such a big occasion.

"It was massive for me, I have been at this club since I was nine years old, you dream of those days at Hampden in semi-finals and finals and scoring against Rangers it just doesn't get any better than that.

"I've been here since I was nine and that moment when the ball hit the back of the net it was unbelievable.

"Everybody in the squad this year has been outstanding and it is hard to get in and stay in with so many talented players.

"The way we have been getting results after results it has been difficult when you have been out of the team to get back in.

"It is great I have been playing so much and Sunday was the pinnacle to score that goal was excellent."

McGregor says he expects a more difficult game against Rangers when they play on Saturday but says if Celtic focus on their job they can get a result at Ibrox.

He said: "It will be a different game, at their place as well, it is always harder and get on the ball and play especially after the result on Sunday, they will be up for it.

"We just have to look after our game, and go there and get a positive result."

McGregor also admitted he would love to turn out for his country against rivals England in June, but says he has to focus on his own performances if he wants to get a call up from Gordon Strachan in the summer.

He said: "It would be massive, Scotland v England is a massive game so for me I just need to keep focusing on what I am doing at Celtic and hopefully try and perform in some more big games and see what happens come the end of the season.

"If you get the call to play for your country that takes priority over everything so I would definitely be delighted if that call came."
