Ryan Christie has said sorry and vowed to win over any Aberdeen supporters offended by a comment he made on Twitter in 2012.

A tweet Christie sent mocking Aberdeen surfaced after the 21-year-old agreed to join the Dons on loan from Celtic until the end of the season.

Sent on the day the Reds met Hibernian in a Scottish Cup semi-final, Christie, who was 17 at the time, referred to Aberdeen as "sheeps******g c***s."

The former Inverness CT ace has deleted his account on the social media site and expressed his regret at his comments.

He told national newspapers: "It looks bad but when I tweeted it I was very young. I can't even remember tweeting it, to be honest.

"When I was growing up in Inverness there was a rivalry with Aberdeen and I would have been winding up my Aberdeen-supporting mates.

"Looking at it now, I apologise to anyone who has taken offence by it. But I hope nobody reads into it too much, I was only 17 and my Twitter account is long gone now.

"It's up to me now to win people over. If anyone is annoyed with me the challenge is to win them back with my performances."
