Ayr Utd create history on way to Scottish Cup fifth round
The Honest Men became the first Scottish side to take advantage of fourth substitution rule.
Ayr United created history by becoming the first Scottish side to use a fourth substitute on their way to reaching the Scottish Cup fifth round.
The Honest Men took advantage of a new rule, which allows clubs to make an extra tactical change in extra time as they beat Queen's Park 5-4 on penalties at Hampden.
As part of an experiment approved by IFAB, clubs are able to field an extra player with Michael Rose replacing Nicky Devlin in the 120th minute of the match.
Paul Woods gave Queen's Park the lead before Craig Moore equalised just before the half hour mark.
Bryan Wharton restored the hosts' lead and they looked set for a place in the next round before Conrad Balatoni struck for Ayr with seven minutes remaining.
Ayr goalkeeper Greg Fleming proved to be the hero for Ayr as he saved Greg Fotheringham's kick to set up a tie with either Stirling Albion or Clyde.
