Edinburgh Rugby stand off Duncan Weir has insisted he will have no thoughts of a Scotland squad return when he takes on Harlequins this weekend.

Indeed, the former Glasgow Warrior revealed he had no idea that Vern Cotter is poised to name his Six Nations group next week in the wake of the Challenge Cup match in London.

Peter Horne, used as cover for 10 and 12 by Cotter in recent squads, is out of the spring tournament with fractured hand, opening the door for a fly half such as Weir to be called up to provide competition for the on-form Finn Russell.

Weir, 25, is getting back to his best after spending months out with a broken jaw sustained back in September.

And while he hopes to add to his 23 caps, he insists that firing Edinburgh to the Challenge Cup quarter finals is his more immediate concern.

Weir said: "I'm just looking to enjoy my rugby. There is no point in getting hung up on international selection.

"I have maybe done that in the past but now I am just looking to go out and enjoy myself.

"I feel that I've been doing that in the last two game I have started.

"So I am looking just to be really positive and enjoy it.

"I want to play with a smile on my face and internationals honours will take care of themselves.

"I'm not going to be worrying about that."

Weir used the thrilling 35-34 defeat of this weekend's opponents at Murrayfield back in October as evidence of what can happen in a game when you lose focus.

A rollercoaster match saw Harlequins lead before conceding four quickfire tries to the capital men before half time.

But the English Premiership giants roared back to lead with ten minutes to play, before a dramatic winning try from Tom Brown.

Weir, who missed the match through injury but was involved is a 24th man on the day, said: "I think maybe in the home game against Quins that the whole team felt a bit up tight and waiting to see what they brought to the game instead of enforcing our own game.

"We scored some amazing tries off the back of turnovers - it was less than one phase at times and we were getting over the whitewash.

"We were so sharp in picking up any loose ball and punishing them.

"They will want to play a tidier game against us after we showed what we can do the last time."
