Alan Archibald has called on his Partick Thistle side to push Celtic all the way in their Friday night clash at Firhill but he says he is not consumed by the search for a statement result against their city rivals.

Thistle have lost all nine Premiership games against the Scottish champions since returning to the top flight in 2013/14.

The Jags' last win against Celtic came in May 1995 and while he is desperate to bring that run to an end, Archibald says history will not play on his mind.

He told STV: "It's more about the three points, to be honest with you. Three points and a performance.

"There has been a few times where we have not gone out and performed against the top teams and a couple of times we have and run them very, very close.

"We know what it takes, we know our concentration levels need to be at the top for the full 90 minutes plus to get a result and make sure we have ten or 11 players at their very best."

Brendan Rodgers' side remain unbeaten in the league after coming through their toughest domestic test of the campaign at Fir Park last week.

Tom Rogic's last-minute goal secured a 4-3 victory and with Thistle the victims of a decisive late goal against Rangers two weeks ago, Archibald has stressed the importance of producing a disciplined display.

He added: "I think we made it a battle, which is good. No two games are the same and Celtic are totally different to Rangers but we want to make it a battle.

"We want to be close to them and be in the game. Motherwell gave everyone a bit of heart last week with their performance and scoring three goals.

"So we can take heart from that, not that it'll be a template to play the exact same game."
