Robbie Neilson says it has been "an honour" to be part of Hearts' journey back to the top of Scottish football as he prepares to finalise his move to MK Dons.

Robbie Muirhead's double gave the Jam Tarts a 2-0 triumph over Rangers at Tynecastle in what is set to be Neilson's last game in charge.

The 36-year-old said he would return to work in the morning after holding discussions with the English League One side earlier this week but felt the focus should remain on his players after their triumph.

He said: "There are discussions at the moment but I don't want it to be about me.

"It is about Robbie Muirhead, a boy who was at Kilmarnock, Dundee United, drifting about, Partick Thistle, boys like that who come here to a good environment and encouragement from the fans and scores two goals.

"A boy who couldn't get a game in the Premiership last year. It is about guys like that. "I will be back in tomorrow morning and what will be will be.

"It is not about me, it is about the players and the club getting second in the league, following recent relegation and the long journey, it is phenomenal for the whole club.

"It is not about my situation. That will be dealt with tomorrow."

Asked to reflect on his time at the club so far, he added: "Tonight is about the players, it's not about me. It's about the club getting second place in the league.

"Ann [Budge] has made the main difference at this club. She's come in and brought stability and the Foundation of Hearts have given us the finance and the backing. It's about the players, the fans and the owner.

"Stevie [Crawford] and I have a part to play in it but that's the pleasing thing.

"It's still not done yet. I'll be in tomorrow and we'll take it from there.

"To be part of this football club has been an honour and it's been great and I will be here tomorrow.

"Until things change I will still be here. It's a fabulous establishment and it's been great being on the journey."
