Patrick Roberts felt pressure after missing Barcelona clash
The winger says he had to perform after being left out on Wednesday.
Celtic winger Patrick Roberts admits he put himself under pressure to perform at Hampden after Brendan Rodgers brought him back into the starting line up.
His side beat Aberdeen 3-0 to lift the League Cup at the national stadium making it the 100th major trophy in Celtic's history.
Roberts started their last league game, away to Kilmarnock, but was relegated to the bench for the Champions League defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday and only featured for 19 minutes.
The Englishman told STV he knew he had to send a message to the manager after finding out he would start the final against the Dons.
"You want to play in the big games," he said. "I didn't play during the week but when I saw the team sheet today I knew I had to give my all.
"We had a great team performance today which obviously showed in the result."
On a personal note, the 3-0 win was the first time Roberts experienced success at Hampden.
Roberts missed a sitter during April's Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Rangers on penalties and didn't come off the bench in the 1-0 derby win last month, which saw the Scottish champions book their place in the final against Aberdeen.
"I came here last year in the other cup and it wasn't the best," he continued. "We came here last month ago and there was joy then.
"We knew the job today was to control the game and play them off the park which I feel at times we did and it showed by the three goals."
