Rodgers delighted with Celtic's composure and quality
The Celtic boss was pleased with his side's performance at Hampden.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers said he was delighted with his players as they swept to victory in the League Cup final.
Goals from Tom Rogic, James Forrest and Moussa Dembele sealed Celtic's 100th major honour and the first of Rodgers' management career. He said all the major aspects of his side's performace impressed him.
"I'm pleased with the performance," he said. "I thought in a cup final, and after all the games we've had, to play with that composure [was good].
"Tactically the team was excellent in the game. They really had to press the game, were really aggressive and we showed our quality when we had the ball.
"I'm very, very pleased to play with that calmness and apart from the ten minute spell in the second half, which you expect, when Aberdeen have to throw everything, we controlled the game very well."
Rodgers said that it was pleasing to see a tangible reward for the work put in since he was appointed in the summer and began working with the players.
"I'm delighted for the football club," he said. "I think it's about six months and a week since I came in and we talked about what we wanted to achieve and how we wanted to do it.
"We're certainly well on our way to that so I'm very, very pleased."
The manager also singled out his captain for praise.
"I couldn't be more proud for the team and if I am to say anything on getting my first trophy as Celtic manager, to have Scott as the captain is a huge honour," he said.
"He is someone who represents how we work every day, his intensity, energy, enthusiasm. He wants to be the best and that is no different whether it is here or Alloa, he is up for every game."
