Scottish Cup Wrap: Bonnyrigg Rose and Forres Mechanics earn replays
There was also an eight-goal thriller between Buckie Thistle and Dunfermline Athletic.
Bonnyrigg Rose and Forres Mechanics defied their non-league status to earn replays against higher-placed opposition in the third round of the Scottish Cup.
Bonnyrigg Rose, the Scottish Junior Football East Region Super League champions, held Championship side Dumbarton to a goalless draw while Forres Mechanics, the oldest football club in the Highland League, drew 2-2 with League One strugglers Stenhousemuir.
In the 1.30pm kick-off, Dumbarton goalkeeper Alan Martin ensured his side remained in the hat with a fine performance that denied the dominant hosts.
The Mechanics, meanwhile, took a 1-0 lead in their match when Simon Allan fired in a free-kick from 25 yards, but Stenhousemuir responded with goals either side of the interval from Fraser Kerr and Willis Furtado.
However, Forres refused to be beaten and earned a replay when Lee Fraser netted in the 66th minute.
Highland League leaders Buckie Thistle gave a good account of themselves but came up short in a 5-3 defeat to Dunfermline.
Thistle were holding Dunfermline 2-2 at half-time after efforts from John McLeod and Chris Angus cancelled out an own goal from Hamish Munro and Michael Paton's penalty.
But substitute Kallum Higginbotham and Paul McMullan, twice, scored for the Championship side after the interval, meaning Angus' second was nothing more than a consolation.
Elgin had no trouble in brushing aside Hawick Royal Albert 8-1 after Shane Sutherland netted four times.
The striker took his season tally in all competitions to 13 while Brian Cameron bagged a brace and Chris McLeish and Craig Gunn also got on the scoresheet.
Kris Mitchell had fired Hawick Royal Albert back into the contest in the 32nd minute.
Elsewhere, Jamie Longworth's 74th-minute winner handed Alloa a 1-0 win at Peterhead while, in the other all-League One affair, leaders Livingston beat second-placed Airdrie 2-1 courtesy of Daniel Mullen's winner after Nicky Cadden had cancelled out Andy Ryan's opener.
Brechin versus Ayr, East Fife against Edinburgh City, Annan's trip to Formartine United and East Kilbride's visit to Stranraer were all postponed on Saturday due to frozen pitches.
