Brendan Rodgers praised Celtic's improved performance against Barcelona but admitted that attacking quality was the difference on the night.

The Scottish champions' European adventure came to an end as they fell 2-0 to Barcelona and Borussia Monchengladbach picked up a point at home to Manchester City.

The Hoops showed far more attacking intent in front of the home crowd and could count themselves unlucky not to have capitalised on any of their chances.

"I thought we broke forward well at times in the first half," Rodgers told STV.

"We had good spells, but we just failed to maybe work the keeper so much.

"It's just those wee moments of quality in the final third that can make the difference so they go up the other end and get a penalty.

"But the players kept going, they kept working, kept fighting and overall I was proud of the performance and what they gave to the game."

The loss showed marked improvement from the last time out at the Nou Camp, where Celtic lost 7-0, as well as showcasing an evident determination in attack.

And Brendan Rodgers felt that the performance was all he could ask from his side.

"If you hear the supporters at the end I think they can see that the players gave everything tonight," he said.

"We obviously want a result that we could take into the last game but overall from a coaching perspective we are looking for a performance and the performance showed improvement which was vital.

"If you think of the first game we played against them and the game tonight I thought we restricted them to very few chances.

"They always have the quality but I felt for large parts that we were in the game."
