Ex-Rangers player Joey Barton given one-match ban for betting
The midfielder, who appeared at Hampden in person, admitted breaching Scottish FA rules.
Former Rangers player Joey Barton has been banned for one match for betting on football matches.
Barton, who appeared at Hampden in person, was charged with breaching the Scottish FA's gambling rules by betting on 44 football matches between July 1 and September 15.
The governing body has a strict zero-tolerance rule which forbids players from placing a wager on any football matches.
At that time, the midfielder was a Rangers player but following a training ground bust-up and a lengthy suspension, Rangers and Barton parted company by mutual consent.
If Barton signs for a club in another country, the national association will decide whether or not to implement the Scottish FA suspension.
The SFA judicial protocol forbids players from betting on any football match, anywhere in the world.
The English FA introduced a similar blanket ban on gambling on football in 2014.
Former Rangers players Ian Black and Steve Simonsen were both banned for betting on football in 2013 and 2015 respectively.
Black was handed a ten-match ban for betting on his own side and served three of them with the other seven suspended.
Simonsen missed one game for putting money on other teams with another game suspended.
Unlike the Black situation, none of the charges relate to betting on matches involving Rangers.
