Any team is beatable in football, insists Barry Bannan
The26-year-old midfielder believes Scotland can triumph over England at Wembley on Friday.
Scotland's Barry Bannan believes the national team can triumph over their oldest rivals on Friday despite the hosts' status as top seeds.
Bannan and his Scotland teammates will head to Wembley looking to cause an upset as they bid to revive a stuttering start to their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The Auld Enemy currently top Group F, with Scotland sitting in fourth place behind Lithuania and Slovenia.
While Bannan is aware of the talent that the Three Lions possess, he is adamant Gordon Strachan's side will strike the right balance between respect and opportunism on the pitch.
Asked if England were beatable, the former Aston Villa playmaker said: "Yeah, definitely. I think any team is beatable.
"You see that with Man City going and beating Barcelona and things like that so if you can get the game plan right and everybody turns up on the day then any team is beatable in football."
England have taken seven points from their opening three qualifiers, with only a 0-0 draw in Slovenia stopping them from having a 100% record.
Scotland have stalled since their opening day thrashing of Malta, with a disappointing home draw to Lithuania compounded by defeat in Slovakia.
Bannan insists the squad is aware of England's quality but thinks the Tartan Army should be positive about Scotland's chances.
"They're a great football team," Bannan said. "There's no getting away from it.
"I don't think they've lost a game in qualification for a while now so they are a top, top team.
"We'll respect them but we'll be confident of going there and getting a result so it's finding that in-between where you respect them but don't respect them too much where you sit back in awe of them."
"It's a massive game, don't get me wrong," he added. "But I think this group has thrown up some surprise results already and I think it's going to be a group that goes down to the wire.
"I think we've got four games next year that are all at Hampden, which will be a big bonus for us.
"I think it's a massive game but this group will go to the end."
