Charlie Adam: I've been left out because my face doesn't fit
The midfielder says Gordon Strachan isn't picking his best players.
Charlie Adam believes he's not getting picked for Scotland because his "face doesn't fit" Gordon Strachan's squad.
The midfielder hasn't featured for the national boss since making a substitute appearance against Qatar 17 months ago and has only made two starts, and come off the bench four times, since Strachan took charge in 2013.
Adam, who is playing regularly for English Premier League side Stoke City says some players are unfairly getting the opportunity ahead of him.
"He [Strachan] will probably say I've not played enough games - but I'd disagree with him," Adam told BBC Radio 5.
"He's given people opportunities who haven't been playing for their clubs for a number of months.
"Obviously my face doesn't fit at the moment. One hundred percent, without a shadow of doubt. I don't know why. There's no communication. I think certain players don't fit and that's why he's not picking them."
Adam is unhappy with the lack of interaction he's had with Strachan since the last time he was involved in the international set up.
He said: "The last conversation I had with the management team might be two summers ago, when we had Nigeria in London.
"He called me up and said, 'I'm not picking you because you are an experienced player and I don't want to bring you, it would be a waste of time for you to just to sit on the bench'.
"I understood that and took it on the chin. But for any other international, I don't understand."
He added: "There are lads who are playing in League One in Scotland and, no disrespect to them, but when you are going into big games you want to be looking around you at guys who have played at the top level and who have a number of caps behind them. Surely you'd think about putting them on as well?
"You want the best players available for your country sat on the bench if you can. You want the best squad. I just don't understand it at the moment."
Adam went on to slam the manager for his squad selection, saying he's not picking the best players available to him.
"I am not saying the manager should call me," he said.
"I am not saying I am the best player for Scotland, but I feel I can add something different to what they have.
"I think it's important to have a relationship with your players. We are not a nation blessed with 50 or 60 top players, we're not an England.
"We need your best players available. I saw the other day Alan Hutton retired. He's only retired because he knows he's not going to get a game."
Adam added: "He fancies someone else for that right back role. He's still the best right back we've got - so why's he not playing?
"We've got a player like Lee Wallace who's played really well for Rangers but couldn't get in the squad.
"We had Andy Robertson who played really well against Malta and he gets dropped against Slovakia.
"We've got a kid who goes to Leipzig for £13m who wasn't even in the squad in Slovakia after playing really well against Malta. I don't understand."
