Brendan Rodgers hails Dembele courage after penalty leveller
The 20-year-old missed his last spot kick against Barcelona, but made no mistake in Germany.
Brendan Rodgers has praised in-form frontman Moussa Dembele after he stepped up to score the penalty which sealed a 1-1 draw for Celtic in Monchengladbach.
The Frenchman was hauled to the ground by Julian Korb and banished memories of his miss against Barcelona in the Camp Nou to slot the spot kick past Yann Sommer in the Borussia goal to earn a point for his side in the Champions League clash.
And Celtic boss Rodgers shared that he was impressed with the striker's attitude after the game.
Speaking to STV's Sheelagh McLaren, Rodgers said: "For a 20-year-old young man having missed his last penalty in the Champions League it shows you his temperament.
"He's going to be a very, very, very good player. He's still developing, he's still learning.
"I thought he started the game a little bit slowly in terms of his touch and he was a wee bit static.
"But once he started to get on the move and once he started to find his touch to link the game for us, he was very good.
"You can tell with Moussa he is going to be a big player because he scores important goals in big games and that's always the mark of a top-class player.
"At 20 years of age he showed great temperament and tucked it away really well."
The result sees Celtic remain at the bottom of the table although they sit just two points shy of Borussia Monchengladbach in the race to gain a Europa League spot.
And Rodgers feels that his side still have every chance of keeping their European dream alive.
"We have a chance," he said. "That is the important factor coming out of tonight's game.
"I wanted a performance of course. Win, lose or draw I wanted the team to play with a personality, to have the courage that they show domestically every single game they play.
"We got that tonight, and we also got a point, and now it sets it up perfectly for the next game.
"A tough ask, a tough game of course, but if we can get a victory it would be huge for us and at least we are still in with that fighting chance."
