The atmosphere going into each of Celtic's Champions League fixtures has varied significantly.

While there was a sense of hope and optimism ahead of the Barcelona clash, as it was a fresh start, the heavy defeat meant there was more realism before the Manchester City game.

The shock 3-3 result at home increased the confidence in the run up to the home game against Borussia Monchengladbach and made pulling off a result a more realistic prospect.

Their disappointing display and deserved 2-0 defeat burst that bubble, though, and with Leigh Griffiths, Kieran Tierney, Jozo Simunovic and Kolo Toure all sidelined for the trip to Germany, the mood is very different going into the second meeting.

Celtic will take on their Bundesliga opponents on Tuesday, matchday four of the Champions League, and we take a look at what the German papers have been saying in the build up.

German paper Suddeutsche Zeitung talks about how Gladbach are looking to reach the Europa League at the very minimum and how they could secure this secure this on Tuesday.

A home win would leave Celtic five points adrift at the bottom of the table and they point out how unrealistic it would be to turn that deficit around with a home game against Barcelona and trip to Manchester City remaining.

Manager Andre Schubert calls this one of their most important games but Celtic will be even more dangerous because they have nothing to lose.

They also discuss the atmosphere expected to fill Borussia Park and predict who will start for both sides.

Interestingly they have named a player called 'Funny' in Celtic's team...

Director of sport Max Eberl has been quoted in Bild saying this tie will determine who finishes third in Group C.

He maintains the belief two wins out of two against Brendan Rodgers' men will be enough for the Germans to secure European football beyond Christmas.

They also quote Schubert saying he is confident his side are capable of scoring two or three goals at home against Celtic.

Tierney's injury has also been picked up but there's no mention of the trio left at home - Griffiths, Toure and Simunovic.

Kicker has expressed how vital it is having Raphael and Thorgan Hazard back in the Gladbach squad for matchday four after a fiber tear and knee irritation respectively saw them miss the Glasgow tie.

Schubert wouldn't commit to whether or not they would play, saying he will assess how they have reacted "to the load" on the day of the game but their creativity and strength are noted, along with how key they are to the Germans' offensive game.

They have also said a win could open up hopes of the Foals staying in the Champions League and exceeding their aim of Europa League football beyond the group stages.

Deutsche Welle notes Gladbach's recent results, saying this is not ideal ahead of such an important Champions League clash.

They point out that while they have kept four clean sheets in the last five games, they also haven't scored in their last five fixtures.

It means they have dropped to 11th in the Bundesliga, a stark comparison to Celtic who hold such a comfortable lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
