Rangers extend midfielder Joey Barton's suspension by another week
The 34-year-old midfielder had been due to return to the Ibrox club on Monday.
Rangers have extended midfielder Joey Barton's suspension from the club by another week.
The 34-year-old was due to return to the Ibrox club on Monday after an initial three-week suspension following a row with Mark Warburton and team-mate Andy Halliday in the wake of last month's Old Firm derby defeat to Celtic.
Barton has since been charged charged with breaching the Scottish FA's gambling rules by betting on 44 football matches.
The charges cover Barton's arrival in Scotland on July 1 until September 15, with one of the matches related claimed to be Celtic's 7-0 Champions League defeat to Barcelona in Spain.
"This is part of a formal disciplinary procedure and Joey has been instructed not to return to Ibrox or Auchenhowie until further notice," a statement on Rangers' website read.
Barton hasn't played for Rangers since the 5-1 defeat to Celtic, only making eight appearances for the Ibrox club since joining as a free agent in the summer.
The outspoken former England international claimed he would prove himself to be the best player in Scotland after clinching his move to Rangers but has failed to make an impact.
Despite being told to stay away from the club Barton has stated repeatedly that he wants to return and fight for his place.
