Martin Canning admits Hamilton must learn how to close out games
Accies conceded a late equaliser against Inverness CT in the Scottish Premiership.
Martin Canning recognised that Hamilton must learn how to close out games more effectively after conceding a late equaliser to Inverness CT.
The 1-1 draw means Accies have already lost 14 points from winning positions in their opening eight matches and Liam Polworth's goal saw them pegged back at home for the second weekend running.
Canning now wants his team to make more of the positions they have found themselves in recent weeks.
"It's a kick in the teeth again," he said. "Yet again we go 1-0 up through Alex D'Acol, we put ourselves in a good place, we were playing well and controlled pretty much all of the first half.
"The second half was a bit more to-and-fro, but I didn't see their equaliser coming, to be honest.
"I feel like I'm sitting here saying the same thing to you. It's frustrating, but from a positive point of view I thought we controlled a lot of the game, we were in their faces, we pressed the game really well, went 1-0 up again and we didn't do a lot wrong there.
"It's not as if it's the tactics, or somebody has switched off, and that has cost us a goal - the ball broke to the edge of the box, Liam Polworth strikes it and it ends up in the bottom corner. Sometimes when luck isn't on your side that's what happens."
Canning added: "Anybody who has watched our games would know we should be further ahead than what we are, and we should have more points on the table than we do, but the bottom line is that we don't.
"There's going to come a time when we're not playing so well, not going ahead in the game, and we're going to need to take our medicine at times. That means when you are playing well and dictating games you need to get points. One at a time isn't enough, we need to make sure we try and address it and get three points."
