Burns would relish bumper Broner payday but focus is on Relikh
The Scottish world champion admits a big fight in Las Vegas would be welcome.
Ricky Burns says he would relish a world title fight against Adrien Broner in Las Vegas which could land the Scot a £1m pay cheque but insists his focus for now is on defeating Kiryl Relikh.
Talks have taken place between Burns' camp and Broner's representatives over a December bout but first the Scot must successfully defend his WBA light-welterweight belt against Relikh in Glasgow on October 7.
Three-weight world champion Burns was insistent that he wasn't taking Relikh lightly but admitted that there would be something special about fighting one of the sport's biggest names on boxing's biggest stage.
"Adrien Broner sent a Tweet out saying 'Go out and get the job done and then me and him are going at it'," Burns said. "I don't really like looking beyond opponents but I know that fight has been talked about at super-featherweight, lightweight and now light-welterweight as well.
"There were a few different names mentioned, all top names that could happen in America, though it would always be good to get them over here as well. Kyril has got my full attention right now and it's going to be a tough fight.
"I've boxed in America before and it was good. Fighting in Vegas would be... I've been there before a few times on holiday and you can't explain to people who haven't been what it's like. That would be nice.
"Going over there, the names that were mentioned would be good fights and if you're getting good money for it, that's a bonus as well.
"A wee trip out to Vegas would be nice but we need to get by the 7th of October first."
Relikh, from Belarus, has a perfect record with 19 KOs from 21 fights and is a big puncher with what trainer Ricky Hatton calls "a mean streak". Burns said he respected his opponent but had experience of similar fighters and felt he had shown he could cope with heavy hitters.
"We're expecting a hard night," he said. "I've only watched a few rounds of him but Tony has been watching quite a bit.
"He is a big puncher but whenever we get these kind of opponents I laugh and joke in the gym saying 'It's a good job I don't mind getting hit'.
"I've been in with so many big punchers before and I've always been okay. My chin is up to the job here.
"We're expecting a hard fight but I'm confident of going out there and getting the win. Training has been going well."
