Perhaps it was his exclusion from Northern Ireland's European Championship squad that inspired Liam Boyce's fantastic start to the season? The 25-year-old was unfortunate not to make Michael O'Neill's squad in France, but has done enough in the first six weeks of the season to force his way back into the international squad.
With six goals in four matches, this season has been the reward for his tireless displays leading the Ross County line.
His hat-trick in the victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle was the first in a League Highland derby, the first of 2016, and he is now one of only two players to have scored three or more Scottish Premiership trebles.
Robbie Nielsen's Hearts are beginning to pick up the pace. Three consecutive victories - two of which were forced in the final minutes - has suggested they may be the side most likely to push Celtic this season.
Particularly impressive has been the way in which they have created shooting opportunities. Having so many points of attack is a key part of this - even their defenders get forward. No side has taken more shots than Hearts have, with 81 attempts at goal so far this term. The 22 shots against Hamilton was the most they have recorded in a Premiership match. In the history of the Premiership, only Celtic can match that figure in any run of five matches.
Consistency has also been key. Hearts have managed at least ten shots on goal in each of their five games this season, and two of those were in tricky fixtures against Celtic and away to Aberdeen.
Obviously, frequent shooting doesn't always equal a greater number of goals, but sustained form when it comes to creating shooting opportunities does tend to highlight a degree of creativity. Hearts have been very creative so far this term.
There were two penalties converted in last weekend's Scottish Premiership matches, dispatched by Motherwell's Louis Moult and Hearts' Jamie Walker. Their successful spot kicks meant that we've had 15 consecutive penalties that have been converted.
Nobody in the Scottish Premiership has missed since April, when Leigh Griffiths failed to score against the Steelmen.
There has only been one longer spell of successful penalties. 23 were scored between September 2014 and February 2015.
