Aberdeen midfielder James Maddison says the strong core of Scottish players at parent club Norwich convinced him of a switch to the Scottish Premiership.

The 19-year-old playmaker joined Derek McInnes' side in a deadline day loan deal, making the switch from East Anglia to Aberdeenshire.

And the former Coventry city man insisted that he was swayed by the positivity of his Scottish teammates at Carrow Road.

Speaking about the move Maddison said: "Obviously I was talking a lot to my agent, who knows a lot about footballing stuff."

"We've actually got a few Scottish players at Nowrich," he continued. "The likes of Steven Naismith, Graham Dorrans, Russell Martin, Steven Naismith; there's quite a few to be honest, and they all spoke really highly of [the Premiership].

"I spoke to the manager here as well and he was really positive. Everything he had to say just appealed to me which really made my decision clear to come here."

Dons fans will be keen to see the new man in action, and he is confident that he has the ability to excite at Pittodrie.

Addressing what the fans can expect Maddison said: "I think they're getting a creative player who is obviously an attacker."

"I'll try and create and score goals throughout my time here. I tend to play in the number ten position but I can also play off the left or the right; whatever the gaffer wants me to do I'm happy to do.

"As long as I'm in the team I've got the chance to show everybody what I can do and how good I am."
