Russell Knox admits he's "gutted" to miss out on a place in Europe's Ryder Cup team after being overlooked for one of captain Darren Clarke's wildcard picks.

The Scot, who is ranked 20th in the world, missed out with Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Thomas Pieters selected.

The 31-year-old won the WGC-HSBC Champions in November and the Travelers Championship earlier this month but didn't do enough for an automatic spot on the team.

Clarke admitted delivering the news to US-based Knox was one of the toughest moments of his career.

Speaking to STV, Knox believes he deserved a place at Hazeltine but conceded playing more in Europe would have helped his cause.
