Kilmarnock boss Lee Clark says the club did everything possible to persuade Josh Magennis to stay after the Northern Ireland international signed for Charlton.

Killie rejected an offer in the region of £100,000 for the player at the weekend before agreeing to an improved bid from the Addicks.

The Scottish Premiership side made attempts to convince Magennis to remain at Rugby Park with talk of an extension to his contract, which expires next summer.

However the player went south to sign a two-year deal with the League One outfit.

Speaking to the Kilmarnock Standard, Clark said: "The deal has been agreed by the two clubs, that's where we are at at the moment.

"Will it be frustrating to lose Josh? That's life. We put up a fight, myself and the board, and tried to convince him that his future was here.

"But Josh made his feelings clear and he wants to go down to England and test himself."
