A brace from Jordan Kirkpatrick on his league debut helped Alloa's bid for promotion to the Scottish Championship get off to a great start as they recorded a 4-0 win over hapless Peterhead.

The hosts started well and took the lead when Kirkpatrick's shot went into the top left corner of the net from the edge of the box nine minutes in.

Rather than sitting back, the hosts chased another straight away and on 14 minutes it was 2-0 thanks to Kevin Cawley, before a stunning free-kick from a central position by Kirkpatrick added another as half-time approached.

Substitute Isaac Layne supplied the finishing touch almost as soon as he replaced Kirkpatrick on 69 minutes, finishing well past the goalkeeper with his right foot.

A debut goal from striker Alan Trouten set Brechin on their way to a 2-1 win over Stenhousemuir on the opening day of the Scottish League One season.

The hosts looked dangerous in attack from the off, but had to wait until the 35-minute mark to take the lead when Trouten linked up with fellow frontman Andrew Jackson and scored from close range.

Stenhousemuir pushed on and ended the half strongly, before equalising midway through the second half, when defender Fraser Kerr prodded home inside the six-yard box.

But their joy was short-lived and Brechin sealed victory on 79 minutes, substitute Ross Caldwell combining with Jackson to score with almost his first touch after replacing Alistair Love.

Nothing could separate East Fife and Albion as they opened their Scottish League One campaign with a 2-2 draw at Bayview Stadium.

The hosts took the lead in the fourth minute through midfielder Kevin Smith when he slotted in the bottom right corner.

Albion hit back 11 minutes later when Calum Ferguson popped up with a left-footed finish but found themselves behind at the break through Ross Dunlop's own goal in first-half stoppage time.

However, the Wee Rovers managed to salvage a draw when midfielder Ryan Wallace scored in the 64th minute.

Liam Buchanan and Scott Pitman bagged braces as Livingston opened the Scottish League One season with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Stranraer at Almondvale.

Pitman gave the home side a dream start, firing high into the net past Cameron Belford after being teed up by Shaun Byrne in the fifth minute, before Danny Mullen produced an excellent curling strike into the top right corner to double the Lions' advantage 19 minutes later.

Craig Malcolm's low right-footed finish halved the deficit 10 minutes into the second half but substitute Buchanan put the result beyond doubt with a 72nd-minute penalty into the bottom left corner after he was fouled by Steven Bell.

Buchanan slammed the ball low past Belford to claim his second three minutes from time before Pitman fired home at the death after Liam Watt's header came back off the crossbar.

Airdrie midfielder Marc Fitzpatrick scored at both ends as his side won 3-1 at Queen's Park in Scottish League One.

After Spiders striker Aiden Malone hit the crossbar inside a minute, the visitors edged in front with 29 minutes played. Iain Russell was fouled inside the 18-yard box by goalkeeper Andrew Murphy and he picked himself up to to smash the resultant penalty into the bottom left corner.

Fitzpatrick extended the lead with a close-range header six minutes into the second half before inadvertently diverting the ball into the bottom right corner of his own goal to give the hosts hope with eight minutes remaining.

Adam Brown sealed victory for the Diamonds in the final minute when he fired a right-footed effort into the bottom left corner.
