Andy Murray to be Team GB flag bearer at Rio Olympics
The Scot says it will be 'an unbelievable honour' to lead the team out at the opening ceremony.
Andy Murray has been named as the flag bearer for Great Britain's Olympic team at the Rio 2016 opening ceremony on Friday.
The Scot was chosen ahead of Sir Bradley Wiggins, David Florence, Nicola Adams and others to lead the team out in the Maracana Stadium.
"I am very proud to be selected as the Team GB flag bearer for the opening ceremony on Friday," he said.
"To represent your country at the Games is an unbelievable experience, but to lead out Team GB will be an incredible honour, the biggest in sport."
Murray, who won his second Wimbledon men's title last month, was a gold medal winner in the men's singles at the London Olympics and also won a silver medal in the mixed doubles alongside Laura Robson.
The decision to name him as flag bearer was taken by a panel of experts from the British Olympic Association, who chose from nominations put forward by individual sport's bodies.
