Dundee manager Paul Hartley says his side's second half performance was "more like it" as they fought back to beat Dumbarton 6-2 in the League Cup.

Greg Stewart struck a hat-trick for the Dens Park side against their Championship opposition, but the hosts found themselves trailing at the break.

It was only after the restart that the Dark Blues found their stride and hit Dumbarton for six.

It was Dundee's first win in the League Cup and a satisfied Hartley said: "It was a good second-half performance.

"We were okay for spells in the first half but we were more like it after the break.

"We've still got two weeks to go to be where we should be at this stage of the season so it's good from that point of view.

"We scored some good goals and the movement was excellent in the forward areas.

"I'm pleased about that and we know we can be a good team when we get it right."
