Lee Clark critical of Kilmarnock players after defeat to Morton
The Rugby Park side suffered a 2-0 defeat at home in the League Cup on Saturday.
Lee Clark was highly critical of his Kilmarnock players after they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Greenock Morton in the League Cup.
The Rugby Park manager brought in 11 new players to his squad this summer, with five of them starting against the Ton on Saturday.
But only Jordan Jones impressed as Jim Duffy's Greenock side claimed a comfortable win against their Ayrshire opponents.
"That was not what we wanted," Clark said afterwards. "You can't carry passengers when you don't have the ball and we had too many players who weren't doing the right thing or making a significant contribution.
"This has been a very steep learning curve for those players. It's a reality check and we need to use it in the right way.
"Now we need to win the next two ties and score lots of goals to try and get through to the next round.
"Both goals we lost were poor from our point of view. Unfortunately, we didn't do the basics.
"I'm not looking for defenders to be heroic in their play - if the ball has to go into Row Z then put it into Row Z. We didn't do that and we got punished."
