Sunderland have appointed David Moyes as their new manager following Sam Allardyce's exit to become England boss.

Allardyce was confirmed as Roy Hodgson's successor on Friday, leaving his job at the Stadium of Light.

But that vacancy has now been filled by the Scot who has been out of work since leaving Real Sociedad in the Spanish Liga last season.

Moyes has signed a four-year deal with the Black Cats, marking his return to the Premier League following his sacking as manager of Manchester United two years ago.

"I am delighted to have joined Sunderland," Moyes said. "I am relishing the challenge and excited by the opportunity.

"I have taken over a big British club with a great support and I'm looking forward to working in the Premier League again.

"I look forward to continuing the good work done by Sam".
